Impreza DEAD?? Will not start! Now have a Video!!
Driving my 2004 WRX to work today...and all of a sudden the car would not rev past 3.5K Then the engine just cuts off.
Next thing I can smell a strong smell which is like clutch burn...
I try and start the car and nothing it just sounds like a bag of nails
I broke down right outside work so have pushed it in...Cant get anything..
Could this be the bottom end gone or a more simple problem

update! I had a friend go out and have a look over the engine. He found a pipe which seems to have come off..
image is here..not sure where it goes and what it does??
Could this tiny pipe on the top drivers side be causing my problem!?!
Any help would be much appreciated!

Can't see what the pipe joins to. Need to zoom out a bit. But that pipe has a zip lock on it rather than a hose clip so no wonder it fell off!!!!

Sounds weird ,doesn't sound like bottom end to me and usually they run. Does sound like it's getting compression in the wrong places so could be slipped belt but that ain't good either

I thought mine was dead after leaving it 2 weeks and trying to start it. When starting it sounded like yours (without the knock) and I took the belt covers off convinced the belt had snapped or slipped. Got the wife to turn the key and looked at the belt. It was turning but incredibly slowly. Now the odd thing was the starter sounded like it was turning quite fast, but the crank and cams certainly weren't. Also all the dash lights worked as normal so seemed odd that it was the battery. Anyway it totally refused to start despite turning over for as long as you wanted it to, until using jump leads from a good battery where the starter changed sound and sped up and you got the standard noise you like to hear associate with compression
So just check that the crank is actually turning at any decent speed when you attempt to start it. However I'm not convinced you don't have another issue if it knocks like that.
