Default changed cone filter now wont run!!!

hello i changed the air filter on my 2003 wrx impreza and now the car wont run
i was a little hasty when trying to remove the old filter when i come to starting the engine again the car tried to idle but it just keeps cutting out and wont rev? is it possible i have damaged anythiing when trying to uninstall the old filter i wish i would have left the old filter on now has anyone ever had this prob?

Did you damage the maff ?
Have you swapped the maff housing as this can alter the readings the maff gives and will cause these types of issues.

Sounds like you could have a problem with your Mass Airflow Sensor - it sits in the intake pipe. Have you connected it all back up correctly

thanks pal i think i strained that does it have around ten small wires connected to it ?

Can't remember how many wires but it's a long flat plug on top of the inlet housing

Out of curiosity, have u pushed the new filter onto the pipe too much? If this is the case you are starving the engine of air and therefore it wont run and youll have the symptoms described. best to take filter off but leave maf connected to see if itl run, if not its the maf.
