Default Speedo converter - CONFUSED!!

Can some please explain to me how the following has happened.

A few months back the speedo stopped working on my JDM bugeye, so naturally I firstly suspected the KPH/MPH converter. As rev counter etc all still worked.

I replaced the converter, same problem. I then replaced the clocks to a version 8 UK sti set. Same problem.

In a paddy I took them both out so at least I would have a KPH reading. Aslong as sensors on gearbox etc all ok.

It now works fine. And is giving me a reading in MPH?? I've compared with two sat navs in the car to double check the accuracy, and yes MPH.

Now I'm not technically minded in the slightest, and to someone this may be a stupid question, but how is this happening??

No converter, JDM import car - MPH output?

The clocks are uk, but that surely makes no difference?

Where did you have your convertor fitted, As if it was behind the clocks you may well find one connected on the top of the gearbox, Cant remember off the top of my head if its the 3 or 4 pin connector, it one of the two, If there isnt one there its as above

Blimey I'm worried now! It was indeed behind the clocks. If the converter is by gearbox what have I removed??? Lol

Indeed Uk clocks will read in MPH Just as JDM clocks will read in KPH. The difference is in the clocks not the gearbox or wiring.
By fitting a convertor you are simply altering the pulse signal to the clocks.
