Default subaru impreza - oil pressure gauge help

Hi all

i fitted a after-mart auto gauge for the oil pressure last weekend but i'm having a right game with it, i brought a 2nd hand gauge and a cheap ebay sender unit but i get some crazy readings from it.

last weekend it was dancing to my music (which was fun to watch) and found out i needed to earth the sender, now the send reads 1 or 2 bar then drop to 0bar then it may go to 1bar again.

now i'm sure the engine oil pressure is ok, its giving me no problems to think pressure is dropping etc

any one know how to wire up the auto gauge style gauge? i'v never done a oil one before so dunno if i've done it wrong or if i have a faulty sender unit?

thanks

Buy a mechanical gauge as they are more reliable.

been looking at this more over the pass weekend, it seems like from cold it will read around 2 bar then when warm it drops to just over 0 on the gauge, if i press the accelerator lighty the gauge will read 1 to 1 1/2 Bar.

Now i've never wired in a oil pressure gauge before so is it something which i've done wrong or are auto gauge gauges really that crap?

Like i said before i dont think the engine as gone as its running 345bhp and had a morning of mapping on it last week

Either your engine is fekked, or the sender isn't matched to the gauge.

The sender just reads pressure and allows so many volts across the gauge.
if the sender is low for that gauge, you will have problems.

Can you not get a genuine sender?

Have you got a link to the exact gauge you have, I take it it's electronic and not mechanical?
What Sender unit do you have?
What adapter are you using?

I would recommend this sender unit and make sure its 2 wire not 1:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Au...item337fb9f0a3

Also this adapter kit
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oil-Pressu...item565237291c

Failing that get a half decent gauge..

brought a whole new set of pro sport gauges, all seem to working fine :-)

i'm getting a reading of 5 bar when cold then seems to sit at 3-4 bar when on idleing at normal temp, from reading pass posts this seems right

That sounds fine, yes.

Mine (forged 2.5) can hit between 7.5 and 8 bar stone cold, but idles really hot at 2.5 bar.
