rotated inlet manifold
what are the actual advantages of doing this?
is it literally a case of just bolting the manifold on the 'wrong' way round and then modify everything else to fit?
i half thought about rotating my turbo to by cutting and welding the up and down pipes but is it even necessary on a vf23 lol
just thought it would be another little mod i can do to spend a bit of time on
cheers

Im cutting my pipes and rotating my td05 turbo. Apparently you unrestrict air so you can gain a bit more bhp.
I dont think it costs alot as ive started mine and priced everything up and it costs just over £200. but im doing all the work.
Ive started to mock up my reverse manifold on my spare engine. Again doesnt cost alot. Ive decided to gobillet fuel rails and lines with reg. Thats the only cost lol

Reverse inlet means shorter intercooler pipe work when running a fmic = less lag
I rotated my compressor housing ( not rotated turbo )to make the turbo side a little shorter as well
You just spin you're inlet round but there's quite a few other bits and bobs to do

The manifold will just bolt on but you then need to sort out the throttle position and get a new bracket made up with a pulley for the alternator as it fouls the pipe work, If you have air con you have to remove it as this is where the alternator goes, Trim a lug or two off and obviously you need a front mount or its all pointless.
As Tone says its to do with reducing pipe work and the shortest option is reverse inlet with flipped intercooler and clocked turbo housing(excluding front mounted turbo) but it all depends on how far you want to go and what turbo/power you are gonna be running, All in my own opinion of course

Don't know about a classic , but on a bug you can use the throttle cable bracket
I removed my air con , cut the alternator bracket flipped the alternator , drilled and tapped it for an extra pulley and an adjuster , trimmed the pas pump bracket to make it look a little neater
Then it's just a matter of re routing various pipes ect to the other side
Obviously you have to mod the I/c pipes
The cost is minimal , the only thing you have to buy is
Manifold gaskets
Elbow from I/c pipe to t/b
Cambelt pulley ( or scrounge)
Alternator belt
All done ( needs a little tidying )

Yep , The shiney bit of the turbo that you see under the bonnet....rotate this so the pipe that would go to your top mount intercooler from the turbo is pointing towards the drivers wheel side, This allows a shorter/straighter pipe to be fitted to the flipped upside down front mount....If you know what i mean

Yeah rotate it round so you need a hand like Jeremy beadle to change you're rear plug like I did , lol

I welded new lugs on the housing to mount the actuator with the original bracket

Got me thinking about clocking now, reversed the inlet and managed to get away with reusing a lot of the original pipework and cut it up along with a 45 degree pipe off the throttle body

Iv actually been doing it over lockdown
i rotated the turbo while i was at it
i had to make brackets up to go from v3 to newage man so iv just cut and shut the parts needed where the tgv would normally sit
i can weld alloy which prob cuts a lot of the cost down
it IS a massive headache as you have to remake so many little things...it looks better though and hopefully turbo will breathe a little easier now
my main reason for doing it was because i converted to newage tb and it would hit bonnet
hopefully this way the iac does not touch bonnet 😂
car is a hack so excuse the fact its not that pretty...i just spend a bit of time here and there making bits for it 😂

that looks neat, kenny!
How much clearance is there between the turbo and the brake reservoir? I was playing around with something similar, but I always felt the turbo (well wastegate specifically for me) ended up too close to the reservoir - i had something like 1cm clearance, but that might have been because i wanted to stay with top mount, which moved the turbo to the left.
