How does the 4WD system in the scooby work. Is it a fixed split of power between the front and rear wheels or does it automatically adjust to send the power where the grip is?

Thanks in advance.

It's a combination of both. There's no computery-stuff involved, just good old mechanics. Limited-slip diffs front, back and middle balance the power, catering for a wheel (or pair of) slipping using the limited-slip bit of the name. The middle diff does the power-sharing front to rear

Who needs the computer stuff anyway, good old mechanics probably do the job almost as well. That's pleasing it would suck if most of the power was up front and that couldn't be changed if the front slipped for whatever reason.

Front diff is open on most models, not limited.

I read somewhere that the power is distributed 60/40 rear/front.
I assume this is correct as I can slide the back end out when pulling out ont a road v quickly

Depends on the model for the F/R torque split. UK's are all 50/50 with no front LSD. Most JDM's WRX's are 50/50. STi's & R's with the epicyclic electrically controlled centre diffs are adjustable from 40/60 F/R to fully locked (Some also have front LSD's) The dead givaway is the diff adjust **** in the centre console

There may be some exceptions to this such as limited editions 22B/P1 etc Also, bugeyes may be different ???

It's the adjustable diff models that you can power out the back end on due to the increased torque to the rear
