Default Undertray

Hi mate I took mine off it was fine then I was coming up the motorway and the **** guard ripped off and caused a lot of damage because I didn't have the Undertray on the wind got under the **** guard under the wing and ripped it off bending my wing and leaving the **** guard on the m6 somewhere so I would replace it

Mine has been off at least 18 months with no problems at all. Famous last words.

Classic STis only have two tiny little ones either side of the rad, not a full undertray anyway. (At least mine has and I assume it's standard).

Some people take them them off and others leave it on. I sit in the leave it on camp, it protects your engine from stones and other bits of debris and also helps to make the underneath of your car flat and smooth.

Not advised to keep it if you have tubular headers as there is a possibility of fire due to minimal clearance.

You can get new clips off eBay.

Removed mine more than 5 years ago after the headers as above melted them. Havent had any problems. do make sure the gearbox cover is removed or clipped up properly as that may catch some drag.

My undertray ways a little wobbly but after a clip and 4 of the plastic rivets the remaining screws hold it on we'll. I figure if Subaru fitted it here is a pretty good reason so I vote on keeping it.

Could someone translate for me please.

My engine under tray was removed at a previous service and, apparently, replacing it was forgotten. I'm now wondering if it is worth going back to get it refitted.

I was wondering this the other day when I did an oil change. I suppose it keeps all the crap and elements away from moving parts (less corrosion I think). but when you have an oil leak you wont see it till last minute

I wrapped my headers because they started to melt my undertray but kept the tray because it works with the bonnet scoop to direct airflow back over the gearbox for cooling.

Given how smooth the undertray is compared to a rough engine bay, I'd say you're going to create more turbulence under the engine bay (and further back), which will:

a) increase drag, which is bad for fuel economy
b) slightly ruin handling
