Hi mate I took mine off it was fine then I was coming up the motorway and the **** guard ripped off and caused a lot of damage because I didn't have the Undertray on the wind got under the **** guard under the wing and ripped it off bending my wing and leaving the **** guard on the m6 somewhere so I would replace it

Classic STis only have two tiny little ones either side of the rad, not a full undertray anyway. (At least mine has and I assume it's standard).

Some people take them them off and others leave it on. I sit in the leave it on camp, it protects your engine from stones and other bits of debris and also helps to make the underneath of your car flat and smooth.
Removed mine more than 5 years ago after the headers as above melted them. Havent had any problems. do make sure the gearbox cover is removed or clipped up properly as that may catch some drag.
My undertray ways a little wobbly but after a clip and 4 of the plastic rivets the remaining screws hold it on we'll. I figure if Subaru fitted it here is a pretty good reason so I vote on keeping it.

My engine under tray was removed at a previous service and, apparently, replacing it was forgotten. I'm now wondering if it is worth going back to get it refitted.
I was wondering this the other day when I did an oil change. I suppose it keeps all the crap and elements away from moving parts (less corrosion I think). but when you have an oil leak you wont see it till last minute
Given how smooth the undertray is compared to a rough engine bay, I'd say you're going to create more turbulence under the engine bay (and further back), which will:
a) increase drag, which is bad for fuel economy
b) slightly ruin handling

mine runs the same without it although the engine gets a bit dirtier now.
i would keep it on if i could but now i have a fmic and a few other mods it wont fit anymore
