Default crank failure general info

Rods bearings 2,3 failed on my engine so I have now stripped and preparing to rebuild. No other damage anywhere.

The measurements on the crank are actually within spec but I am tempted to buy a new one off ebay with acl race bearings just to be 100%

Are these Nitrided CrankShaft's a improvement over the standard or it just a fancy dress up?

£520 quid seems good for absolute piece of mind to me?

53 wrx ej20 btw.

Are you selling them haha

So it would be well worth me replacing mine with that, don't really fancy stripping the engine again in the near future....

Have a think about up grading the rods as well, I can do rods and pistons, for £695, Mahe 4032 pistons, my rods-http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370797303850&ssPageNam e=STRK:MESE:IT#ht_720wt_1161
I can beat that price for a crank and bearings but ive only got the sti crossdrilled in stock(not nitrided), I can do a crank at £375, bearings are about £100

What could you do for a price all in? rods bearings crank pistons the lot?

Also what is the difference between a stock crank? a nitrided crank and a sti crossdrilled one?

- That sucks jacko, any ideas why it spun bearings the second time round?

An sti crossdrilled crank has 2 x oil feeds from the main bearings to the big ends, this gives a more consistant oil feed, a nitrided crank is the same design but has been heat treated to make the journals harder. Personally my opinion (and Im buiding these every day) is the weakness is the width of the big end bearing and not an issue with the crank. WRX rods are poor quality as are the pistons which doesn't help.
rods, pistons, bearings, crank- £1100, 11mm oi pump +£170

Seems a good price but considering I will still need to buy a gasket set oil and fluids, think I should probably be sensible and just replace what I actually need. Despite wanting to forge. I agree, never in any engine has a seen a big end close to how thin these are so I'm not surprised they fail
