Default paint code

to simpify the paint code on my vlimited v2 wrx says 53c,this colour is the dark blue in the engine bay only.the outside is a different blue with no code.the 555s and vlimiteds are all the same from factory.if you look at mcreas car or pics of any vlimited you will see enginebay colour is different from outside.in short looking for someone that ownes one that has found the outside body paint code

The 53c refers to the colour of the car not the engine bay.

I've got a 555 sti in the same colour as yours.

The McRae cars were slightly different colours again.

The engine bay is darker than the car.

The 53c is the paintcode for the car! Why on earth would they give you the paint code for the engine bay?

I'm a painter, if it says it's 53c then it's 53c, you may find there is a 53c-b (blue shade) 53c-r(red shade).......etc, as an example so ask to see the variants, check the colour using a 3m sun gun or a northern light lamp. Plus the colours on the chips will be different to the actual colour, best ask for a spray out card to be made. You can change the colour in so many ways by changing the way you spray it, distance will effect the colour, pressure will effect the colour, temperature will effect the colour, angle of the gun, list goes on, depending on the size of the repair, you have the option of blending and applying a drop coat to match old and new paint. Just go somewhere with experiance

my answer isn't very detailed, was a long night, but in short, Look at the known variant chips, ask for a spray out card to be made, if it's slighty different a decent painter should be able to loose the colour all depends on your application, painting a spolier or spliter won't give you this option. Shame your not closer to here

The P1 engine bay is also darker but the paint code is for the body.

My 95 wrx is silver but the engine bay and boot shuts are a flat grey. My misses has a y plate sport special in the metallic black. Boot shuts and engine bay are a flat black. All the paint codes refer to the body colour mate.

I own a STI V2 RA Vlimited. The paint code for the car is 53c, that code refers to body.
Either your body shop can't mix paint or your car has been sprayed at some point.
Any decent body shop can mix paint to match any colour, so even without a code your body shop should be able to match it.
