Default key ???????

hi so i have recently brought a wagon my98 its done 170k and i just noticed i can pull the key out of the ignition while engine is still running wtf,,,
and its hard to turn the key somtimes

the key is very very worn i have saw these on ebay

what do i need to do to transfer the guts over i noticed there is a little square thing on the plastic at the base off the key do i have to remove this

The key in your link is just a blank, you would still need to get the blank cut.

The square thing your talking about is at a guess the transponder chip for the the immobiliser, yes this will need transferring onto the new key.

still need to get the blank cut. of course yea can i just pop that square thing out with a nife

think your probably right just feels very loose when key is pushed in
also steering lock dnt engage key switches to that setting but it dnt engage

Baz is bang on mate, much more likely to be the barrel

is it worth getting a key because i only have one key anyway, but i dnt want to throw loads of money at it see how it runs for a bit just had it serviced mate said motor sounds sweet slight oil leak coming from rocker and from a pipe we think goes near oil filter just had full mot and 6 months tax 1 owner up to 165k then a guy brought for run around cheap and thats what ive done full subaru service history a stack of receipts adding up tp about 10to 15 grand

also apparently had a top end rebuild by subaru i cant find no proof in receipts

Personally I've never had to buy a barrel, but would imagine that it would come with a key or 2.
Just remember if doing on the cheap and only buying a barrel you will still need the original key for the door/boot.

So in my opinion, no, it's not worth buying the key

would i need my key for the mobiliser or is it link to the barrel i know im asking stupid questions which have probly been covered

If I remember correctly the immobiliser is on a ring around the barrel, think it slides off then slides over the new barrel,
If I'm wrong someone will be along to correct me

Obviously you will still need the transponder from the old key

iknow its the barrel but also the locks are a bit of a wiggle so im goin to get one of these blacks cut see what happens so does the transponder just pull out
