Default 2004 Blob Sti TypeUK...engine woes!

It's decision time! I have had my Sti for 6 years and it has cost me about £1500 a year so far in repairs and upgrades...not too bad....until now.
It went into the local scoob specialist with a PO301 misfire problem which I have seen before a few years back and that time it was just a neutral switch that was faulty, £100 then back to full healt. This time it looks like a cylinder and piston fault with very low compression on cylinder one.
The car has done 155k miles and I am now not convinced there is enough equity left in it to be possibly spending £3000+ on an engine rebuild?

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated as I am going to either have to sell it as a project, get it fixed, or limp it into a dealer and trade it (with my fingers crossed firmly behind my back)

Just buy another v7 or v8 engine for around 1k from a reputable breaker or subaru specialist then get it fitted job done

If it has some decent mods maybe another option is to break it & put the finance to another motor. If you don't have the tools, skills to do this then some breakers may do you a deal if they break it & sell parts for you, just another possible option maybe to consider.

Even though you have had the car for so long & looked after it 155K is still some mileage so keeping it may only lead to other issues even if you sort this mechanical problem.

At the end of the day you need to know what you want as an end goal otherwise you may make the wrong choice and regret it later.

Good luck with your decision though mate.

Great mileage mate, wonder what other STi's have managed such distance for that age

Be a shame to let it go, if you are comfortable with the car keep it and as said above maybe source a new heart for it

If you like the car and want to keep it then go for the engine build.atleast then you should have many more years of enjoyment from the car.you wont gain much back by breaking
It as the 2 things that will bring back most cash is the engine and box.but at 155k the box wont sell for much and the motors goosed anyway.so if it was me i would get it fixed and give it some more beans.

Rebuild the engine if needed or buy another engine/ car depends on your budget.

My car is at 59500 miles and had 2 engine rebuilds so take it on the chin...

Thanks for all the advice and comments chaps...much appreciated. I just cannot be without a car for long so gonna have to get something boring right away to get me to work etc.
Are there any users here that are in the need of a project do you think? I am going to have to make it someone else's labour of love I think...I just spent lots in the last few years on coil overs and a lovely Roger Clark stainless exhaust. Going to miss that noise!

Get hold of a second hand engine from a reputable source, I am sure there must be some fellow Scoobynetters local to you who would pitch in to help fit it ?

Shame to get rid of it when you have spent so much time and effort (and money !) on it ?

Has it had a cyl leakege test done, to find if its valve or piston at fault, compression test will only show an overall condition, its common on higher mileage Subaru engines to have a ex valve issue.

Hmmm, cheers for that...it was diagnosed as "Misfire due to lack of compression on Cylinder One". That is about all I have got as I then assumed it was possibly going to end up uneccononomical to repair?

Any suggestions welcomed though mate.
