Default New car with problems :( P0463 & P1086 among others

After a year or two without an Impreza I am finally back with another, an X reg bug eye WRX. Love the car, gutted to later find it's problems, worried I may have just thrown away a lot of money! I'm pretty screwed.. financially.

Looking for any guidance on getting it sorted out, even some beer money in it for any local members who might be able to help

Aside from that the nearest Subaru specialist I can find is Subaru4you in Newbury. Anyone had any experience? They're only about 30mins from me. Feel free to recommend another close to Oxford or Swindon...

As for the problems I have inherited;

CEL illuminated with P0463 & P1086.

P0463 I know is fuel level sensor A circuit high.
What I have done so far is to remove the rear seat base and disconnect and reconnect connections underneath on the drivers side and then remove seat back, take out the 4 screws on the fuel pump cover and do the same to that. I then reset the codes and took it for a drive. P0463 is yet to re-appear but the fuel reading below half a tank is erratic, sometimes a quarter of a tank sometimes empty with the light on. From searching around on line I assume I need a fuel sender which doesn't seem something major from what I have read. Only thing is I don't know if I have an aftermarket one or it's still the original. I don't know if I am confident enough to start playing around with things I don't understand! Would it be ok to get a standard part or should I go straight for aftermarket to play safe?

P1086 seems to be a bigger issue. Problem & cost wise. I have been advised to disconnect and reconnect the connection on the TGV sensor, reset codes and see if it re-appears. However I am struggling to find it. Code description is "P1086 Tumble generator valve #2 (LH) position sensor circuit low input" so stupid question out the way but is this left hand facing the engine or left sat in driving seat? I have used google images to try and find a picture of the sensor and think this is what I am looking for am I right?

The only other one I have found that looks the same as this is left hand side facing the engine to the rear near the turbo..
At the front I had to remove the induction but didn't see anything like above pic (assuming I've got the right part)

I have so far spoken to Scoobyprojects and they told me there are a few solutions to sorting out the TGV, when I asked for a ballpark figure they said I would be looking at around £270 + Vat for the most cost effective option. I haven't yet discussed what they plan to do.. just needed a figure.

I have also read that the TGV sensor is the same part as the Throttle Position Sensor and can be used for the same job. Anyone done this before?

Many thanks for reading this far hope I can get some input

Hi there

Fuel sender is not expensive as you are said, just use OE sender(used will not cost more than £30),I've used AutoMeter fuel sender which is big mess,I wouldn't recommend use this in any circumstances

About the TGV,you have few options do so via TGV delete, which someone who is good with DIY will do this cheaply for you http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...?t=1741045,you will need remove this error(CEL),just ask mappers here about this(Duncan@Race Dynamix,Bob Rawle,Simon@JGM) and they can remove this CEL or you can buy cheap STi inlet manifold which is TGV free(only from Hawkeye onwards have TGV)

Many thanks Jura for the input! Would an STi sender & pump be ok for the job? Just spotted one on eBay, the other ones seem to be quite a bit older...

TGV delete sounds good, it'll just be finding someone that can do it
For the STi inlet manifold would that be from a UK or JDM? Again I'm having a look on eBay but tbh don't really know what I'm looking at. Don't know if this would do the job:

Hi there

Have look here in for sale section and contact here breakers(Matty5br@Pole Position or Scott@Scooby Spares),I'm sure they will able to help you

UK STi inlet manifold will be fine and is cheaper,JDM STi are dearer(£150-£200 for inlet manifold)

About the fuel sender, can be just bad connection, worth to check with multimeter

In your area is Zen Performance and Rich@FB Tuning, speak to them

They should be able to do TGV delete, they have premisses for to do so for sure
