Question adjusting clutch pedal quick question?

hy guys i hope somebody can help me today i tryed to adjust the cluch pedal and looking at it i tryed to get the master cylinder fork off and undone the sirclip and pulled the bolt out BIG MISTAKE it took me 2 hours in the rain to get it back in (as i had tampered with the pedal stop bolts then realised they were locked at a position so the clutch cylinder fork and bolt line up) then i gave up and went in..i done a search and found this thread....

is there any other way to adjust the clutch pedal on a classic subaru as my pedal is too high about a inch higher than my brake pedal and feels like doing yoga stretches when changing gear

i thought the way to adjust clutch pedal hieght was by unlocking the nut on the clutch cylinder and turning the rod of the clutch cylinder inside the car on the classics can anybody clarify this?
