It ain't down on power at all just that little noise is there any boost pipes in around that area? Sorry for the newbie q,s but still learning about these engines thanks

There are no boost pipes or anything in that area, but I have found that tracking down the source of a sound in a car while driving is very difficult.

Has it always done it? Anything changed recently?

Could it be as simple as a cable grommet on the bulkhead has worked loose and you can just hear the engine bay a little more than usual?

I've only had the car a week :s it's only very faint but gets louder when I accelerate , but when I say louder its not deafening, defo not a fubared turbo or anything because its on the wrong side of the bay, it's to wet at the minute to get a good look round the car just thought maybe its a common fault of some kind, but all I've got so far is its acceleration related hmmmmm

You may find it's just you getting used to the sound of the car and noticing things more with each passing day.

Or could be that it's about to sh*t itself. Joke. I hope

Down in the New Forest near Christchurch. Used to work in Andover and know Ludgershall reasonably well

Maybe worth signing up on Hampshire Subaru? Nowhere near as lively or active as it used to be, but you may find other Andover area owners on there.

Any other opinions in this I think it's getting worse? It doesn't do it when I stationary and its worse when I accelerate and I'm 100% sure it's from the glove compartment, what's behind there in relation to the engine bay?

Hmmm why would any of that whistle under acceleration? Don't want to start ripping it all out

You may want to check the intercooler for leaks. It may be leaking down that side and under acceleration the boost comes on, so it leaks?
Just a thought and worth a check, hope you get it sorted.

If you are toodling along and feather the throttle to accelerate it will whistle in harmoney. Just like a wee mini turbo stuck in the glove box lol.

Dump valve is vaguely in that vicinity, so I imagine it could be the valve whistling. I know DVs on a particular vintage of classic had a reputation for sounding like air being blown over a bottle top, and that sound came from left of centre IIRC.

Yea thanks mate I did think that but then it's %100 air tight , and its to prominent of a whistle to be the engine bay itself, I've narrowed it down to be definately be from inside the car.

Happens on mine too, 98 impreza, when accelerating and 'wizzes' on gear change at low revs changes to psssssht at high rev always assumed it was the dump valve whistling because its only opening a small amount at lower revs

The standard one is recirculating though so there technically shouldn't be a noise ?

Not sure if mine is standard, it looks like an over sized air horn next to the engine with holes in it that open when dumping, after a google search mine sounds more like turbo spool up not too sure,

The rubber bung from the engine bay is there isn't it? Check under the bonnet behind the intercooler and see if the bung is there maybe? If its not could explain your noise on boost?
