Default Feeling Sluggish

Hey guys.

i got my 95 wrx import on the road a few days ago and i'm having a few issues

driving at a low RPM, say town driving in 4th, the car stutters quite a lot as if its going to cut out

sometimes on idle, the car drops to a few hundred RPM and trys stalling (it has stalled once, everyone looked, i felt a bit stupid)

and finally, on boost in 1st and 2nd, i get a lot of pull, but come 3rd and above, the pull feels very slow,

every gear is boosting at 0.9Bar, with no drop off.

I''ve not tried anything yet as i dont want to make the problem worse.

the only engine modifications (to my knowledge) are a blitz BOV, and a Nur spec exhaust.

I've read it can be the MAF sensor, or dirty injectors/return line, but still completely unsure. It could be normal with the pull, but being the first scooby i've been in/driven i couldn't say. but i would have thought the same pull, or very similar throughout the gears would be happening

cheers for looking,

Also, when the car is cold, if you rev it, it will drop rpm to about 500 before going up. Just thought i'd add that one in. cheers

Thanks for the quick reply. I've literally not done anything at all, but I will have a go tomorrow and get back to you with results

try it unplugged on idle for a few seconds,a slight improvement in running could indicate a failing maf

Thanks for that. My car came with no history at all so I have no idea if/when anything has been changed

right mate, i took the maf sensor plug off and revved it up. a lot of white smoke and then it cut out.

still took it off and gave it all a clean just to be on the safe side. but i think its actually got a coil pack down, the video, if you can actually view it, shows the sounds its making. just sounds like its missing a beat. but it got really bad today and is barely drivable now

just plugged the black connectors together to see if any CEL codes would come up, but no luck on that. Now the car doesn't even want to start

Its a myth, it doesnt prove anything as you are running closed loop.

OP, it could be your speedo sensor if your rev counter has stopped working (any issue with the speedo itself?), realistically you will need to take the car in to a garage to prove the fault, white "smoke"? do you mean smoke or is it that the engine is cold when you are revving it, in which case its more likely to be condensation, if its on a hot engine then id say you have a H/G issue which wont be cheap to fix and you need a sniff test minimum to confirm this.

The speedo its self is working perfectly, but its just the RPM gauge.

It only smoked when revved without the MAF sensor plugged in, otherwise its clear as day so not a head gasket fault!

i have no idea where to look now! haha. the IACV is half open though, i've seen a video which says it should be open or closed but i have no idea what to do really. clearly the MAF sensor is all good. However, this morning i struck it up and gave it a few revs, and the temp gauge was moving up and down =S, just seems to be throwing handfuls of problems at me! could you see the video by any chance? might help the diagnostic if you can hear the problem for yourself

turned out to be the cam sensor, for anyone with this problem. the wiring was broken inside so stripped it back, re-wired and everything works again!
