They won't go straight on. The bolt pattern is diffident. You will need a bracket to fit the calipers.

I know godspeed does a kit as I have used it. Not sure on other suppliers.

You will not - newage WRX 2-pot discs (290mm vented) will work with the classic handbrake shoes.

As above, adaptor bracket and a set of bug WRX discs and you're good to go.

You need to remove the stone guard though, as the discs are obviously larger.

Not really - you'll need to drill out several spot welds, though. Actually mine were so rusty that I did not need to drill anything and removed them with a chisel

Here's a detailed writeup with pictures

And here's another one using a different design of conversion brackets

Couldn't say, personally - my brakes were in very bad condition before the upgrade and I also upgraded the fronts to 4-pots at the same time. I do believe there's some difference since it's a rather commong upgrade for a classic.

Rear brakes generally on most cars dont do sod all. Id imagine tho having an extra piston on the back would help you come mot time but unless your a very heavy breaker i dont think there will be much in it. My opinion tho i think they look better with the subaru logo on them. Thats the main reason i got mine as well as one caliper is siezed.

Lovely stuff. Im sending mine off to Ian at godepeed to be profesionally refurbed. He told me he can refurb the front 4 pots and rear 2 pots for £350 so they will be getting done shortly along with the big brake upgrade he supplies

I did a lot of work on a rear 2 pot conversion. The kits don't fit very well IMO. The discs will go straight on if you get the right ones and the rear shield will come straight off with ease - just get a beefy screw driver and lever it off.

See my project thread for problems and issues with this mod: https://www.scoobynet.com/414125-flo...ge-iii-19.html

With hindsight, I'd do the whole hub conversion.

That just because you bought a low quality kit , the kits we make , and it was me that designed this style bracket , anyone else selling a kit looking like this has just nicked it from me , but the brackets we sell fit perfectly with no overhang on the pads , its certainly a lot easier to fit the bracket kit than swap hubs over , and also a lot cheaper.

I didn't buy any kit. I would have if I thought they may have fitted correctly though. I CAD designed and made my own. If you look at my project you'll see why the kits won't fit my hub without sitting too high on the disc...

hi just wondering how you can tell if your pistons are seized? i have been trying to figure out why my car pulls sharp left on hard braking would that suggest that the right has seized? i easily changed out the rear pads and the pistons went back ok but could this be a problem on the front any advice would be great as garage couldnt give me a price to even fault find the problem as it could be a caliper, pump or long list of bull****, im quite mechanically minded and can easily change out pads and discs and change fluid which is all in line when i get home from afghan in 24 days woooop hhaa you think that would solve it? thanks mike

Hi
I have looked at some of your pics , the car is a 4 door with the 160 axle and 266mm discs and one pot calipers as standard , my fitting kit would have fitted on with everything fitting perfectly , don't know why your saying they won't fit on your hubs , how are your hubs different to others ?
Cheers Ian

Your brackets look similar to mine, hole spacing must be identical, only 'height' maybe different? You use spacers to hold the caliper in the right place but I couldn't get it to sit on the disc correctly like that, as the backing plate was just in the way. Also the centre of the disc wasn't met as the caliper bracket fouled the backing plate too. Not sure why my calipers would fit right. Anyway, I had to mod mine to align correctly.

It's an easy afternoon's work, and very rewarding.

Just get the kit from Ian and give it a go.

I can only speak for how mine fitted, which was Brembo 2-pot calipers and discs fitted using Ian's brackets and larger handbrake shoes.

The rear disc backing plate needs removed, and that is easily done with a sharp 6mm drill through each spot weld, before cleaning up and Hammerite-ing the hubs.

The bracket then fits in place, spacing the caliper correctly. In mine's case, I used Ian's kit with thicker brake-shoes, he now does a kit with steel inserts in his larger discs, to accomodate the original smaller brake shoes for the handbrake. If/when I replace my discs, I will go with these. they could do with being done now, but I'm awaiting warmer weather.

You use Bugeye WRX rear discs when fitting the OEM 2 pot rear calipers, Jay. It has the correct sized handbrake drum, so nothing to worry about.

Couple of crap pics.
