Default Oem potential Q's + answers

Hello there gents.

Questions for the Subaru guru's

What are the Oem potentials on a 2002 WRX bug.

A friend of mine is insisting I get a fuel pump first? And to go from standard 380's to 550's?

Why? I'm looking to go to 330-340ish. So what she needs, she gets. But I don't want to splash cash for the sake of it.

On the flip side of that coin. If it needs an expensive purchase for a safety/reliability purpose. It'l be one of he first things I buy. As in a thicker alloy radiator, or bigger intercooler, heat wrapping everything hot that could cause problems.

Just to clarify. Here's my future an growing set up. Collecting at present, then gonna do it all in one hit.... To feel the benefits

VF35 turbo OR TD05
FMIC OR STI top mount (undecided on that one as yet)
Walbro fuel pump (if required)
Pinkys (at the above bhp figures probably req)
3" bell mouth decat down pipe, coupled to a full system (in the shed)
Decat up pipe generously heat wrapped (in the shed)
Massive ITG cone filter (installed)

Anything I've missed? Also, will a 3port boost solonid help? Or do I need not bother?

Cheers guys

Hi there

If you will go above 320bhp,you will need go with bigger injectors(STi pink injectors 550's or Hawkeye WRX/STi blue injectors),fuel pump will be needed too(HRC we are running without the problem, plus 2 years warranty worth to consider) plus parts which you are mentioned plus 3port boost solenoid which will help with better boost control, from Classic 3-port boost solenoid will be cheaper option and working well.

Before you are thinking upgrading visit your local Subaru specialist for health check(compression, det and AFR check)

Hope this help

Thanks jura, i appreciate that mate.

The car itself is in very good order mechanically. Its only done 45k, with a fully documented an detailed service history. Not to blow my own trumpet, but im confident in saying, she's a good one.

I may be coming across on the power issue the wrong way. Id like it to acheive between 330-340 yes. BUT as daft as it sounds, its gonna be driven quite normally, no aggressive driving, just pootling around town. Its just nice to have the power on tap. Especially if i see my bro in his R35 GTR ( yeah i know, no chance ) l

Ditch the air intake for the standard box, Sti topmount, Put a new set of plugs in too and a 3 port and hope you clutch holds up, Other than that it sounds all good

Ive got EBC orange stuff pads, an god speed discs. Brakes should be good enough.

As for standard air box, i like the sound of the turbo air intake. Even if its pulling in warm air, the STI or fmic intercooler will aid that problem. I have an intercooler themometer, an inlet temps fall well within engine tolerances.

As above guys suggest clutch will be good upgrade too,Exedy pink is very popular and mostly used

Brakes, shame on the WRX are OE 4 pots and they're OK on the slightly modded classic, but on heavy New age is just not enough,we are run OE 4pots with EBC on the 350bhp and we are been very disappointed,if its the budget Brembo will be best upgrade which you can make

Possibly just a build up of crap on it which is quite common, give it a bit of a launch and see if it clears. Although if it's the original, then it is 10 years old so could well need changed.

An OEM clutch "should" be fine at that level, I've got an OEM spec 230mm clutch in mine and it's been abused since the day it was fitted over 4 years ago.
