Default Engine rebuild list

Has anyone done there own rebuild and if so what did it cost you I looked at gaskets and they seem to be around 400-600£

Any advice welcome

i bought a genuine subaru complete gasket set for £342 from www.importcarparts.co.uk and rebuilt mine myself. all good so far

Thanks zippy mines a uk classic my00.

What did you replace for new piston rods etc and what sealant did you use

the problem with mine was piston number 3 had melted so i had my rods, crank, heads and bottom end all checked and machined if needed then did a complete bare block rebuild using the best components like acl race bearings advanced automotives piston rings as mentioned genuine subaru complete gasket set etc etc

its ok mate im not shy lol from top of my head heres a list - full subaru gasket set £342, heads,crank,rods,block checking and polishing £230 (block needed machining) , complete piston ring set £120 ,acl race bearings big and little ends £120 engine assembly lube £25, new oil £44, new oil filter £8, grey gasket maker sealant oil/temperature resistant £12 brake cleaner aerosol (used to clean everything as assembling it very important!) £5.45 per tin, new coolant £18 probs more to list but cant think of anything at mo.

Last question was it forged parts or standard and was the parts all from car imports above

it wasnt forged as my budget couldnt stretch to it (hence me also doing the build myself) but all parts were uprated or the best quality didnt do anything on the cheap or cut any corners not all from import car parts some were from advanced automotives and local car spares shops. also with the money i saved on not paying someone to do it i bought some nice little extras eg, uprated exhaust manifold, de cat up pipe, fuel pressure regulator, 13 row oil cooler, ally bigger radiator etc as well as learning a hell of a lot in the process! heres how it looks now

That looks awesome mate good job there

Did you have a manual to build it back up?
