Can anyone tell me if a cambelt only change and valve clearance check has my drivers side are noisey, been quoted £350. Is this good or bad . The belt seems a easy job but would not wont to to valve clearance has going by the noise i think it will need a re-shim.

My cambelt is overdue for changing , when i brought the car it had a tapping noise coming from the drivers side engine top under the rad filler cap. I have tried to find where the noise is coming from but can not , so i took it to a scooby clinc.
They checked leads, plugs and spent hour on it with no joy, they said the rocker cover will need to come off and they think its been re-shimed wrong or thrown a shim, will not no till cover is off.
Because i need my cambelt changing they said labour charge would be less if i had both done together and would be looking at £350. I live in the notts/ lincoln area and dont no any other scooby experts to compare price.
Its come at a wrong time and i go on family hol in 6 weeks but i need it sorting incase its doing more damage.
