new owner questions
hi all, just bought 2001 bugeye wagon un modified with 75 k on it. Is mine an obd2 if so are the code readers on ebay worth buying or not.the engine light was on when bought but seller said that even subaru couldnt bring a code up and that it may be that the lambda sensor is on the way out. It also has an oil leak but havent looked where properly as it has the plastic cover under the engine. Thanks for any advice in advance. Justin

Hi,
Yes the code readers on eBay are worthwhile from what I have read , they will at least give you a starting point to identify what is causing the CEL.
The oil leak is quite possibly being caused by the rocker cover gaskets , get a torch and have a look around the air box and screen wash sides of the engine ( either sides as you look at it). If its leaking at the air box side it can drop onto the exhaust and cause a smell

Ideally get one that does live readings. You can than look at things like lambda voltage and air flow. These item wont show a code unless theyve totally had it. With live readings you can see whats slowly failing

search for autel diagnostic kits as I bought one and its great. They are the company that makes the sealey ones but obviously not branded but it will come with a CD with all different manufacturers so it works for more specific problems. Will even delete cel for and and air bag if I remember rightly. Cheap too so is worthwhile a look.
