Default Split sti newage intercooler - Updated.

Anyone managed to split a newage sti intercooler by running 1.5bar through it? Mine seems to be leaking between the folded joint at the top.

I thought these could handle up to 400bhp?

Right, after a weekend at the santa pod i noticed performance was down. I took a good look around the engine bay as i could what i suspected to be a small boost leak whilst on full boost. I removed the top mount to have a closer look and noticed oil all over the bottom of it but could not trace it to any particular section.
So after having a little think i came up with this idea to pressure test it, all found in my garage so it cost me nothing.

Materials:
One empty food can
15mm speed fit pressure tester
15mm brass tank connector
silicone
section of copper pipe
Plastic lid
Bike pump

Came up with this

The turbo side is blocked with a clear lid which is clamped, you just cant see it very well as it's clear. Anyway i began to pump & soon found this with the aid of some soapy water.......

New intercooler time

Straight away, no pressure would even build up, so leaking a lot.

Yes it was a loud hissing / squealing noise under full boost which as time went on, got worse. A bit annoying as i bought it not that long ago £100 odd down the drain lol.

Have you thought about trying to get it repaired. Motorads in Redditch may be able to help but I don't know the cost. New STI intercooler nearly 700 quid.

Give it to a Radiator specialist, there's one near me. They'll fix that for you
