Default What could it be??

A friend of mine has Subaru sti ver 4, that has been parked up for a few months, The battery was dead on it, so he got a new battery today and there was abit of water around in the engine bay not alot but must have got in from the vents.

However once he dried it all up, tried starting the car and a big spark come from the top of the starter motor.

Now the car wont start, Ignition comes on fine with no warning lights, and also you could hear the fuel pump prime other than that when you turn the key no response what so ever.

What could it possibly be, Starter motor burnt out, as it did spark??

Help appreciated.
