Paulo P is selling new age sti lump on here for a decent price, check members sale section. That would be enough and not for alot money. To forge the engine is around 3-4 k depending....

Personally rebuild what you have. It's definitely a buy cheap buy twice scenario with subarus. If your going to go forged then go 2.1 the cost is almost the same. Around 5k should see you with a nut and bolt rebuilt and good for 550bhp.

Ecaactly, to forge would be the best option but it bloody 5k. What if not all of us can spend 5k on the engine? Everytime the kind of thread comes up everyones jumping on board offering 5k rebuilds. Find a good used one from traders on here or someone respectable , and go for it.

Mantazini that makes sence.... Whenever I see an engine go automatically everyone is looking at 500bhp and really there to me is nothing wrong with putting oem back in, ok there are a couple of things that will be worth doing no doubt to improve but not to the point of thousands being spent on top.

Don't drive yours until it goes bang as if your bottom end has gone that's potentially all you need to replace so much of your existing engines top end will be used to rebuild a new bottom. If you drive yours to complete destruction your only going to push your bill right up and damage more parts.

This is always a potential problem a friend of mine had his engine let go during mapping once, we must remember these cars are not getting any younger and have gone through several owners in the past too.

There are a few companies on here that rebuild so you have a few experts to choose from with a guarantee then when you drive off afterwards.

Yeah 5k is way ott for me I was happy with it getting 305 and driving nice it's only used to take me to work 10mins up the road.

And I agree the car is old and it was just to much for her.

Will get some quotes from different people.

if and when mine goes pop, i plan on dropping a low milage, with warrenty from a dealer, JDM STI 8 engine drop that in, there good for a strong 350-400 bhp form the box, and can be picked up (with warrenty) for around £800 job done!

When I spoke with my mapper (well known on here), he suggested the later blob STI engines were potentially good for up to 450bhp, although that would be the probable maximum limit.

What I don't understand is that the guy here is saying it started knocking right after the map - so why has nobody suggested taking it up with the mapper?
Was the car a bit fooked prior to the map or something? Mapper would have been my first point of call!

true, also the OP didnt suggest milage on the motor etc so it could have just been a classic case of pushing a worn motor over the edge?
