Was wondering much the same, although I suppose I just asked if the car was a bit fooked rather than mileage which can play just as big a part if the car's had a hard life.
He did say it was a classic, but a 00 so a later one....
I know some people do go along to a mapping session saying get the most you can and if it goes bang I'll deal with it - wish I had enough money to do the same!

To the OP - Hope you get it sorted with a happy outcome

People have run the JDM STI bottom end to well over 500bhp. If you only plan to run about 300bhp then a quality guaranteed one will be good enough for your goals. Your heads will fit straight on all you'll need is bolts & gaskets & fluids, so say about £1300 allowing for a few extras. Then of course there's the labour if you can't do it yourself. Might be worth sending Harvey a PM for further advice & prices.

UK STI V7/8 bottom ends have also been ran at 500+, equally as strong IMO

Simon(JGM)ran his UK sti blob daily driver at well over 500bhp and 2bar+ of boost with no issues what so ever.

Hahaha - Mr Roe is a braver man than me though
That reminds me, I still need a ride in his race car! I'm told I may need some new pants to go with it!

i was in your shoes 2 weeks ago, untill i mapped the car the engine was knocking.

so the mapper didnt fully map it, turned the boost right down so i could drive home.

i priced everything up for a rebuild and a new motor. hours and hours on the laptop pricing and trust me this is your best option.......

buy an STI long motor and drop it straight in.

within 2 weeks my car is back with the mapper as we speak.

Looking to get a VF34/35 for my blobeye but not so sure now.
Was the engine knocking caused by the new turbo?

Also, sound clip has been deleted, but what are the tell tale signs of engine knocking?

Not the turbo, Worn/tired engine is the issue.

the sti7 engine is a very strong one as well as the 9, i know of pleny blobs running over 400 on standard engine with no issue, but sometimes it's just time for the engine to give it
