You do know your standard ecu can be mapped with most of the features you could want

Why would you want a simtek for a bug or blob
I can't see the advantage
Genuine question btw , not questioning your choice
One thing I do know I wouldn't pay for ecutek if hell had me , when a good mapper can get the same results with o/s mapping , it don't make sense

Tha advantage of using a 'proper' ecu is that the resolution of ignition/fuel etc is better, the mapper can trim the map to a better overall map. A std ecu works ok but the drivabilty of an aftermarket ecu will ultimately be better. Assuming the mapper spends the time and effort on all aspects of the map, e.g start up and idle, part throttle etc etc. You would be suprised how many mappers dont spend the time on all aspects of the mapping.

Agreed about the ecutek. I paid peanuts for my license second hand and was the right option at the right time for me. I'm aware open source has good functions and although any good mapper can map the original Ecu. But as said above a improved Ecu such as simtek or Solaris offers a little more proven option. But we will see. Currently still looking into all areas do a choice is yet to be made.

just had Andy Carr map my 05 sti wide track with his maff less map with l/c and a/l
wow it drives nice ,good responce too.took his time to map it until he was happy.
it, was good to have someone explain what they were doing awell top bloke
money wise it was good to,less than half the price of a stand alone ecu (simtek)
if it just a fast road car with the odd track day i would speak to Andy

Switching to aftermarket ECU has advantages of additional and more advanced version of features as well as can also allow more fine tunign of the map.
which you go for is a toss up between cost and features, personaly i would go syvecs over simtek or Alcatek as its now called, theres a few £100 difference but for me its worth it.

no one said just give the op an answer he needs ( and some replies i got were way off topic )
Yet here we have another case of the shepherd speaks and all the little forum sheep jump in behind him
It Makes me p**s

Why has it now become wrong to ask a question ?

So from someone's question I got to learn somthing
Would be a pretty boring world with a yes / no answer all the time
Do you not agree
I Can't see the harm as long as the op gets his question answered and a few little snippets of info pop up along the way
Thought that was the point of a forum
