Default 2.1 stroker price.

hi there does anyone know how much it would cost working from a std spec 05sti uk, to achieve 500bhp on a 2.1 stroker kit including vat and all labour costs, cheers.

Approx £6k minimum. Even that would probably only see approx 460bhp

Depends who and how you want to do it. With full supporting mods you'll be looking at around the 10K mark - it really does depend on the spec you want. I've engaged on a 2.1 build of this type on an 02 bug and I'm looking at north of 10k. It's best to ring those respected builder on this site and have a chat - lots to chose from.

I often consider this.

However what im deliberating doing is support my car now for say 450bhp on the standard engine, so in my case I just need Tubular headers, clutch and a MD321T.

Then buy a 2md hand 2.0 STI AVCS complete bottom end later this year, and hand it Enginetuner or API and let them sort it out as funds permit, then when complete take car to them, leave it there, install with the mods you already have, collect, run it in, and then try the setup up again with more boost

2.1's I believe react very well with a MD321T

Id say 10k upwards as well, its all the small things you dont think about that mount up, fuel rails, fuel line, fittings for parallel rails, rails, fuel pumps, clutch, ecu, mapping cost, injectors, intercooler, turbo and pipewprk oils, gaskets, etc etc iv done nearing 20k on my build so far and its still not finished, although i have gone rotated turbo with a ppg dog box so extra cost lays there it all mounts up.

That all depends upon what the car is going to be used for. The cost could be anywhere between £10,000 and £15000. 500 hp is getting quite specialised and it cannot be done on the cheap.

It can be done in stages of course, get the engine done and in the car and remap, then do the external stuff over however long it takes to get the budget.

Call me to talk it through if you like.

For 500bhp, stroking (pardon the pun!) is not necessarily a prerequisite. A good two litre will be nigh on as good as a stroked 2.1.

IMO you'd be better off aiming for a good, reliable 450bhp, which is more than enough for most people! (unless your competing on the Strip regularly or TOTB etc). In fact it would probably cost almost half the amount, to go for 450bhp, than aiming for over 500bhp. I would rather have 450bhp and then lose some weight off the car and may be spend a little more on "proper" suspension and brakes.

Agree totally - sort of - with 7 & 8 above. A good 2 litre will get a similar result. the 2.1 will make more torque due to the characteristics of the bore stroke combination.

BUT at the final reckoning I don't think there'd be much [ in fact I know ] of a saving going 2.0 against 2.1. Especially if the original 2.0 engine comes in with a damaged crank.

Given the extra torque potential , which after all, makes any engine feel strong. The advice has to be 2.1.
AND frankly 450 is plenty and will be more reliable than anything on 500. The engine life reduces by some way the harder you push the power.

What crank would you use for a 2.6?

Thumbs up

my situation is am in 2 minds whether to get a hawkeye 2.5sti uk and forge the engine,or a 05sti uk and go 2.1 stroker, both working from std spec job lot, with intention of odd track days, rwyb, fast road car. its looking like 450bhp is a much better overall package without breaking the bank. cheers for the advice.

For the road, providing you don't want to go much above 450, forged 2.5 with a billet SC46 every time! What you want is torque and early spool and the 2.5 will be best in these regards where there ain't no replacement for displacement. I'm biased, I have one from API

Track use or for those who want something that revs to infinity and beyond, then 2.0 or 2.1.
