Default Intake air temperature gauge questions

Recently bought a 1999 impreza turbo 2000 and it has a a air temp gauge fitted in the dash which lights up but doesn't show the temp so i'm guessing its not finished.

Any ideas on what I need to finish? I found this and wondered if this was it

any help would be great cheers

I guess you are trying to measure the charge temp (the temp of the air as it goes into the cylinders) as opposed to the air temp as it flies past the MAF....

Have a search on here for "charge temp" and there will be several threads.

Unless you are running quite a few mods I'd spend the money on something else

https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...-mounting.html

I suppose the first place to start would be looking for a temp probe somewhere along the inlet tract.........

or follow/look at the wire from the back of the gauge? This may make it easier to work out what you're looking for under the bonnet. I mounted mine in the hose between the intercooler and the throttle body.

I've got two: one measures inlet temperatures and is mounted in the FMIC piping just before the throttle body.
The second measures air intake temperature and it's sensor is held onto the air filter cone outside with two stitches.

Mine is that one for the inlet temperature and a cheapy for the intake.

I did have one that measured outside temperature too, and lit up green, but it only worked for about 6 weeks.
Probably needs a battery, but I can't be arsed with it at the mo. Maybe when my back is better.

I'm currently wiring two gauges in, one lights up red and monitors the temps after the turbo the other lights up blue and monitors the chargecooled air.

the one monitoring compressor wheel outlet temps is a good one to have, it tells you how hard the turbo is working, i.e 130/140c is good, 180/190c is very bad.
