Hi as above, I fitted a v6 Sti spoiler to my classic and I have noticed since then I have water in my boot. I have siliconed around the boot seal and there are no rips etc.
I can't see how the water is getting in, no water on underneath of spoiler to indicate it coming through but the water seems to collect bang in the middle of the boot near the catch for the boot lock.The water collects on top of full size spare near the catch for the boot lock?

 

I don't think it's coming from underneath spoiler as the underneath of boot is always bone dry,could it be that the rain runs down the boot seal past the lights and somehow leaks in the middle by the boot catch say 2 inches in from the latch???

 

you could sit in the boot and get someone to power wash the car, it should show up.

 

Yeah think I will put my son in over night and he can show me in the morning lol, it's just damn annoying!

 

I would lay money on it being the rear lights, the black mastic tries up and then allows the water to pass.

 

Thats what it was on my sti rear lights, i just took em out scrape the mastic off and replace it with tiger seal or silicone and bolt your rear lights back on! No more water leak !!!!

 

Hi, just re siliconed my sti lights as there was a slight leak and I have siliconed around the boot seal so fingers crossed! I will report back soon .

You SHOULD NOT use silicone, or Tiger Seal or Sika Flex for bedding stuff like that.

First off, silicone isn't much use as it's not meant for constant immersion, only showering, and ALL THREE will make it almost impossible to remove the bits again should you need to. And if you've bedded rear lights in it, you WILL need to

The correct stuff is something like carafax: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_fr...All-Categories, which is a non-setting mastic, will not crack or split and will allow the item to be removed should it become necessary, eg: damage from an accident etc.

 

To alcazar, I did a search and indeed used carafax when I put my sti lights in.
It seems the reason my boot is leaking is because when I had my arches repaired by my local body shop they removed the lights but didn't reseal them hence the leak, sorted now though thanks.
