Default ecu help

i'm looking to get a mapped ecu for a my00 uk turbo so when jolly green monster comes to map my car i can plug the mapped one in and he can do his magic. anyhoo my dilema is from what i have read there a 3 different ecu's that will fit my car, there is a J2, E3 and a Y7.

on ebay there is an E3 ecu that came out of a RB5 but there is also an E3 that came out of a 99 uk turbo are these the same ecu's with the same standard map or is the RB5 one different
The J2 one says its from a STI 6 type R
they are all grey 4 plug fitment,

now my question is wouldnt the sti 6 type r map be around the power range i am after (280ish) if so couldnt i just plug it in and get it coded for my imobiliser?

help guys

So you want to buy a mapped ecu so a mapper can map your car? What's wrong with the ecu in yours?? It's totally mappable and in my experience an already licenced ecu isn't really worth the hassle as it will cost you about the same as a licence!!
An v6 sti ecu is no good to plug in and get coded because you don't have an sti!! You will get far better gains from getting your ecu mapped.

The only saving you can make is buying a licensed UK ECU, preferrably one already mapped by Simon if you are getting him to do your remap. If buying one with a license from another mapper, its best to check with Simon if there will be no issues in being able to access the current map.

The ECU from the RB5 is the same base map as the one you already have, unless its already been mapped, its not worth buying it.

Be careful with the STI Type R ecu as the jap imports dont have the immobiliser feature that the UK cars have. I think its possible to swap one way but not the other. I know for a fact that its not possible to run an ecu from a UK car in a jap import as this happened to me earlier this year.

Swapping the Type R ecu in wont get you 280hp without the heads and turbo from the Type R.

Finally, they may look like 4 plug but there are only 3 slots used.

thats answered that then. the only reason behind getting an already mapped ecu is because it would of been cheaper for simon to map it to my car but i guess im going to have to stump up the extra dollars and get the original mapped

thanks guys

Get a 99/00 ECU that already has an Ecutek license on it, usually cost around £100 - £140, then ask him to map that

Yeah, all isnt lost bud. As winston69 says, any UK ecu from 99/00 with a license will be fine. But if nots previously been mapped by Simon, check with him that he wont have issues.
