Hmmm -- I had exactly same prob (my00) - turned out to be immobiliser (after thinking fuel pump/relay etc.....). Did it randomly for over a year, then cut out completely

First step would be to do a fault code check using the plugs under the steering cowling. Let us know what you find.

mine was completely dead -- had it taken away on a low-loader, garage had it for a week, then called in an auto-electrician who diagnosed immobiliser.

What alarm have u got on the car??

p.s. -- of course yours cud something completely different - fuel pump and its wiring are also suspects.....

Could be anything from the cam sensor to the temp sensor and it doesnt necessarily throw out a fault code
You need a "proper" diagnostics machine (not a dodgy 30 quid hand held code reader) to show whats at fault (and even then it may not show until if fails completely).

quick update,i done the fault code check using the 2 black plugs under the steering wheel cowling today.the check engine light flashed at an even pace so i guess there are no faults stored on the ecu.

It may well have just over fueled from the very short journey you did. It wouldnt have even burnt of the fuel from the start up enrichment in that time. Very short journey's arent ideal and can cause all sorts of problems
