I've noticed this happening on mine. Usually get a whiff of it if I'm in traffic and always smell it when I've parked outside my flat.

Would be nice to know what causes it. No visible signs of anything happening just the smell.

Well I had the weepy gasket done on mine because of the oil leak causing a smell and a couple of months later a faint oily smell was back! Thinking I knew exactly what it was and being a bit pi$$ed off I left it a couple of days in disgust before eventually lifting the bonnet to inspect.

What I actually found was that the aircon belt had come off and had been bouncing around behind the other belt for 2 days filling the whole engine bay with bits of belt including a fair amount dropping down onto the manifolds and causing the smell.

Lesson I learnt was never assume, check!

i had the rocker cover thing, but it should produce a little smoke rising if you check under the hood straight away after a run.

got it fixed, and it's fine. but i have noticed slight burning/fuel smells from it after runs sometimes. i just put it down to it being a rather uncivilised brute

My guess is the rocker cover gasket too - i had this on my old classic.

Get a decent torch / lamp and have a nosey around the front & back of the engine
