Default Is it adviseable to fit a 3" downpipe to a 2.5" centre and rear?

Ive just bought a seconds hand exhaust system under the impression that it was a 3" system but its not.
Its 3" downpipe with a flat end to centre section
A 2.5" centre, with a floating mating face and a tapered flange and the front that does not look like its going to fit the downpipe at all but the chap i bought it from says he had it fitted to his 2000W turbo fine.

Any ideas?

I've got a 3" open neck downpipe, fitted to a 2.5" centre and backbox, no issues here!

I had the same on my blobeye, 3" snakehead downpipe and the rest 2.5", just make sure its getting remapped if your fitting anything smaller than what its mapped for.
