Default STi hatch - Droning noise when driving

Hi guys,

I've got a 2010 Sti hatch which has developed a (getting louder) droning noise when driving at normal speeds on the road, it's been getting more noticeable for the last few months and I'm wondering if anybody has any ideas what would be causing it ? I thought it could be road noise from the tyres as they have now done 17K, I don't think it's the exhaust, but could it be something like front diff or wheel bearings ?? It had it's 2 year service a couple of months ago and nothing was brought up then.

Cheers for any info,
Kev

Hi kev, I've seen a few cases already this year of hub bearing failures in the front which cause this droning noise you've mentioned which could be the case in yours, as it's still under the manufacturers warranty book it in with your local dealer they should be able to assist. Or if you fancy a run down to Carlisle were more than happy to have a look for you.

You don't mention what brand of tyres your running as the oem dunlops can be horrid when there well worn
Cheers
Rob.

Hey Rob,

Cheers for your reply, I'll book it in next week for my local dealer to have a look.
As for my tyres, I''ve got the 18" prodrive alloys from the PPP fitted and they have
Pirelli P zeros on them, can't really fault them so far.

Cheers again,
Kev

Can't be the tyres then as I run the p-zeros on my hatch and there spot on. Sounds more like the bearing in the hub assy that's starting to go

Well, that's my local dealer had a look at my STi, they took it out for a run and also thought it could be the hub bearings, they went and changed both fronts, but........it hasn't made a whole lot of difference to the noise. Their next plan of action is to possibly drop the box out to check the internals........I'll keep with the updates incase anyone else has a similar problem. All I can say is thank god it's still under warranty !!
