Default Identifying engine internals

How do you know what pistons, rods and crank you have? I recently purchased a cdb with "sti forged" internals. Im going the 2.1 route so all internals are being replaced but how would i confirm if existing internals are what there said to be as i may be looking to sell them?

Not sure what they would mean but I would guess at having STi pistons. The pistons from MY97-MY00 are good quality forged items.

When the pistons are out, it will be obvious from the presence of casting marks if they are forged or cast.

Pictures would definitely make it easier. Both top view and a good shot of the underside can help identify the pistons

OEM forged pistons will have HF1/2/3/4 stamped on the underside of the crown and the underside will be smooth.
OEM cast pistons will have cross hatching on the underside.
