Looking at coming back into the Impreza fold - 06-07 WRX
Hi,
After giving up my baby (2001 Turbo 2000) almost 2 years ago for a big career change I am now looking at getting back into a Scooby....
I am currently looking at an '07 2.5 WRX with 50k on the clock is there anything special to look out for with the Hawkeye? How 'strong' are the 2.5's?
Ross

get a e low nice low mileage blob,
apart from high oil usage on the 2.5
head gasket
my main issue would be the price of the road tax on the later hawkeyes.
year and half ago i brought a one owner from new 04 wrx with 6004 miles on the clock so there still out there just keep looking.

The engines on the 2.5 WRX are pretty weak, to avoid the danger of the ring lands going you're limited to about 340 bhp before needing to go to forged internals. If you're not planning to upgrade beyond that then the other thing is head gaskets, as maydew says. They'll tend to go at 25k intervals, so if you're looking at a 50k example you'd want to check it's had the head gaskets done recently, if not they'll probably be on their way out soon. £1500+ to get them replaced properly. The 2.0 engines are much more solid
