Default ej207 valves clearance

Hello

I would like to know what are valves clearance to setup in head on a impreza STI type R v5 engine (which is apparently different from other STI engine as valves don't work the same)

hello Mick,
thanks for your help. those are clearance for Type R v5 specific heads right ? which is different from other heads from what mechs told me.

is it better to be on the tight side ? (as I would guess things would have tendancy to go on the loose side with time)

in millimetre this would be :
Inlets 0.16 to 0.20 mm
Exhausts 0.21 to 0.25 mm

any link to an engine spec manual ?

Type R valve clearance spec is no different to any other STi (apart from the later EJ257)

Do not set the clearances 'on the tight side' as the clearances actually reduce/get smaller over time due to wear to the valve seat/valve face and the high combustion temperatures of the turbocharged engine.

thanks mick,

so I understand, even if on my head, the lil piece of metal which is used to setup clearance isn't placed like other sti heads, it still has same clearence. (apparetnly other heads use an other design from what my mech said)

Ok, so first things to know. all pills have been mixed up at previous garage.

now that we try to set up heads. even if we go for tightest setting (0.15 intake, 0.20 exhaust). when first head is done, we end up with bigger pills for the second head, which means it would have even tighter clearance

what should we do ? reskim all pills to follow original clearance ? (0.20 intake, 0.25 exhaust)

There shims not pills lol. You can grind them but it would be a hell of a work up, i'd use a sharpening stone with oil. Either buy new or swap them with a friendly garage. A lot of motorbikes use under bucket shims so they may match up in size.

You have under bucket shims as used on the STi Version3/4/5/6.
