Default petrol gauge not reading anything

Hi all had my subaru about 3 weeks now , it doesnt read petrol at all, the light works , ie you fill up by 20 and the light goes off but the gauge doesnt move at all just sits on empty.

I bought a walbro fuel pump and a new sender unit from someone on here , however after fitting the new sender unit , still nothing? it doesnt budge a bit? any ideas?

This is really doing my head in now

Has your car had different dials fitted to it as mine has lockwood dials fitted and i broke the needle on the gauge while fitting them. Just an idea

no just standard dials, i took the dials out the other day and move the petrol gauge manually with my hand to the top , when i started the car the needle dropped to say half then slowly as petrol went down so did the gauge?

When installing my walbro pump I somehow managed to accidentally flip the float / arm thingy back on itself on removing the old pump, so basically the arm doesn't contact the bit it needs to read the fuel level, not noticing I built it all back up only to see the gauge plummet when I started it up, d'oh!

Fuel light still worked tho.
