Where does your temperature gauge sit?
Hi all,
Noob here, just picked up a 2007 Spec D today
On my way home I had mixed driving, some slow driving and some err.....well.....not so slow
Temp gauge has been all over the place with the varied driving, where should I expect it to sit when driven normal and when driven hard?

Did wonder about possibly head gaskets as the gauge behaves quite eratically. Fluids all good so far though
May not have been like it when I bought it though, I have driven it extremely hard today

My temp guage stays just under half way whatever the weather / driving...........My actual temp guage (extra digital one) goes from 82-97 degrees while I'm driving but the OEM guage still doesn't move.....
The only time the OEM guage moved upwards was when the turbo water pipe burst

I did buy from a dealer. No issues when viewing, test driving or driving about 40 miles home.
I live by a bypass and have been playing all afternoon. I noticed the temp gauge getting up to around 3/4 so pulled over. Popped bonnet and turned engine off. Turned ignition back on and the fan kicked in straight away and brought the temp down to normal rapidly. I then carried on playing, the temp stayed normal, but when I slowed down and drove home normally the temp went up again then back down again

my gauge never goes above a third regardless.

Found an interesting recent thread by Oracle - `Overheating, Thermostat or water pump???`. Gonna give the car a good going over tomorrow.
Head gaskets would not be the end of the world, I had budgeted for a new cambelt and a bit of contingency pot for anything else needed. I was aware of the fairly common 2.5 engine issues before buying and had this in mind.
Not quite the start I had in mind joining scoobynet, thought i`d do some mega detailing first and put some pictures up.
Thanks for the all the advise so far guys

Got a reciept but no `warranty` package as such. I know I must have some legal rights but like I say it was fine when I inspected and tested it before buying. It may be a result of my driving style Legally, maybe I could pursue it, but morally.....not so sure.
Hopefully it may be an air lock issue.
BTW the cars not standard, it`s running around 340bhp

No, coolant looks fine, on the level and smells normal. Oil still like new, bang on the line. Engine / rad not over hot to the touch.

Right, been out for a drive, keeping revs below 2500rpm. All fluids still ok.
Temp gauge sat steady just below half. All of a sudden after about 8 miles it climbed up to roughly 2/3 mark. I pulled over and popped the bonnet car still running. The engine didn`t seem hotter than it should be, top hose was only warm to the touch and the bottom hose cold. The fan was running constantly trying to bring down the temperature it thinks is too high, even though the engine isn`t overly hot. I carried on driving and the temperature dropped straight away back to just under half again. Pulled over and the fan was still going for it even though gauge sitting at right temp.

take it back ...... something is wrong!!!! its not up to you to fix it if youve just bought it off a dealer.
as said the temp gauge should stay just under half all the time. the bottom hose being cold means something is wrong, could be stat, could be waterpump.
there is a fit for purpose law meaning they cant sell you something that isnt working properly
