Default Engine dead on 1498cc Petrol. Source Random Engine or Rebuild???

My mother-in-law drove here car without checking oil!!? Engine 'nacked. She took it to a local garage who said that it was near impossibe to source an engine and the one they have doesn't come with any history!!?? They put it out on their system that supposedly went out to 4000 UK breakers.

anyone know where to source one of these?? or wouldn't it be better to just rebuild??? The Car is in Wokingham

Subaru Impreza, GGD,0R0
5 door hatchback 1498cc , Petrol,
First Registration : May 2007
It has allwheeldrive
Present mileage around 51,400
The replacement engine: £1,000.00 + VAT
New Cambelt & Waterpump 224 + 47.50 + VAT
12 hours of labour
Comes to a total of £2,056 + VAT
But he could not tell me how old the replacement engine is or what mileage it has on the clock.

Many thanks in advance for any help you can give.

**just checked with her.. she bought the car in Sept... broke arm so didn't drive until January.. her and her son checked all the fluids in Jan... 500 Miles into buying it and 'Kaput.
private sale.. naturally.

The engine size will be hard to source, don't spend a grand on one with no history. Is it a UK or JDM import?

It's a UK Car.. yep. I've had plenty of cars and thought the same thing.

Now to try and find a reputable engine rebuilder in the Bracknell area... and get a qoute for that.

Any ideas on a rebuild cost??
