"Singing" Engine
#1
OK guys, go easy on me. I'm new to "performance" cars, having just bought a MY99 Turbo with SS back-box. Mostly stock otherwise except a Panel air filter. My question is, why does the engine "sing" when I change gear under heavy acceleration? Is it the turbo or the clutch? Is it normal? Is it OK? Or, do I need to improve my gear changes? Oh, while I'm at it - is it normal for Scooby catalytic converters to smell so bad?

The brake/clutch(?) pipes that run across the back of the engine bay on the drivers side have a habbit of resonating on high revving gear changes. The sound is more of a barking than a singing but can be very loud. If you think it is this, just stuff something between these pipes and the metal behind and see if the noise goes away.
