A MY97/98 manifold will fit and allow space for the front entry intake pipe (use a MY97/98 one, or pattern silicone) going under the manifold, OEM-style. You will also need a later MY97-00 PAS pump/reservoir assembly, to allow for the necessary room.

I have all these items sitting here doing nothing (I was going to do the same mod to my previous 93 WRX - but I bought an STi 5 and modded that instead). So they're for sale (I also have all the MY97-00 PAS pipes and hoses).

Anything is possible if you use the correct bits and I've done it on mine because I went from a 90 degree entry TD05 to a front entry MD321. I used a version 3 sti inlet manifold and power steering pump with a version 2 throttle body and idle speed control valve. You need to space the throttle body and run it upside down though so you can use your engine wiring loom

I'm using newage single coils too and bypassed the ignitor to run them

I'm using version 3 fuel rails and your injectors will drop straight in. Re-wiring things could prove tricky though because the amount of wires differs plus things like the idle control valve work the other way around so that's why we went the way of using version 2 stuff on the version 3 manifold. It's not easy but it does work.

The MY93-96 inlet tract has three! severe 90deg turns. Where as the MY97-00 under manifold tract has one bend (just after the MAF link pipe). This is much more beneficial in allowing the turbo not to 'fight' for the incoming air. The MY93-96 tract can indeed become problematic beyond a certain amount of air demand for a turbo (thus potentially strangling the power). What the power point is though, not sure.

You can run a single coil pack and leads but for the cost and ease you may as well just run newage coils I'm running 1.6/1.7 bar on an MD321 with no misfires using newage coils and it's a lot smoother than it was on the old coil packs.

You need to bypass the ignitor and you need to wire the plugs for the newage coil packs onto the wires from the old coil packs so that they connect up. It's 2 wires per coil pack to join up to make a loom and 1 to earth per coil pack.
