4 Pot Sticking!!!
Hi Guys
I have had the problem today of one of my 4 pots deciding to get stuck on !!!
Driving along 50miles away from home and i can feel a big resistance and the steering wheel shaking, also me having to accelerate hard, so i pulled over and there was smoke coming from the calliper where it got so hot!!!, luckily it came unstuck so i could get home and no problem again...
Question is what would you recommend i do, get them refurbished or upgrade them (if so what for??) , as i need new disks and pads anyway??
cheers

If you are moderately handy with spanners, you can refurb them yourself, if not get them to Ian (posted above). i did my own with new pistons etc and they have never been as sharp as they are now in my couple years of ownership.
I got my bits from the jap import guys and Bigg Red, reasonably cheap too.

He's had a local company make up some pistons and is selling them on , as a sideline , he is not trading legally , he is not paying to advertise on here , what would you call it ?
It costs me a lot of money to trade , including advertising costs on places like scoobynet , so I feel quite strongly in protecting my interests

In my experience doing 1 caliper which looked in terrible condition - externally anyway - all that actually really needed replacing was the 1st seal on each bore, the dust seal.
I bought 4 pistons and enough seals for 2 calipers (cost was about £80 or so I think) and could have salvaged all the pistons but replaced 1 as it had some damge at the outer edge. Others had no corrosion that couldn't be removed with the application of a little wet and dry. The inner seals I DID replace - they didn't appear to be damaged in any way but as I had sufficient I did them anyway. Took a couple of hours.
If you want the ability to just swap over then Ian's exchange caliper deal is suitable and also means you don't have the worry of 'what if I find a problem when I try to remove mine'.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, but i fitted some used 4 pots, pads and discs and im getting a judder that you can feel through the steering wheel and the brake pedal, but only when braking. Would this be sticking calipers or warped discs? When they were removed from the other car, there was no apparent problems.
Has anyone got any ideas?
Cheers

It could be your hub is running out , which would mean you would have had shaking on your old brakes , if not and its only doing it on the new ones , then it sounds like they are warped and it would have been shaking on the car they were taken off

Just an update on this. I changed to new discs and pads and the problem has gone. Very strange though as it was my brother in law I got the calipers and discs from and he said they were fine before breaking the car?
At least its sorted now, thanks for the comments of help.
