Default Which Ecu?

Hi guys,
I'm in the process of trying to get a little more power from my classic 2000 Turbo, don't need anything too silly just yet, around 260-280bhp would be about what i'm after
Now i have a full turbo back 3' system including downpipe/decat, an induction kit & a Walbro, I'm thinking a slight boost increase is next, but i'm a little confused about the number of ECU's available!
Is it just a matter of fitting something like a Simtek (getting it mapped of course), or should i be using a different standard ECU before going for something like that?
Also, my induction kit isnt the best, what would you all recommend?
Thanks guys,
James

What year? Mines 99, same set up as yours but with upgraded spark plugs, bleed valve for slight increase in boost and ECUTEK remap on original ECU giving 280BHP. As for intake system, lots of varying suggestions but my green stuff induction kit works well and hasn't damaged my maf sensor in over 5yrs.

Sorry, should have said, 1996 pre facelift model. I believe yours will have the TD05 & mine has a slighty rubbish TD04?
Cheers mate,
James

Like you originally said, there are various ECU types out there to which I'm not clued up on but pretty sure you can't remap yours but I would say that getting a simtek system will be excessive for what power you're looking for and costs alot of dollar to install and map, knocking on the £1000 mark I think.
You could try getting hold of Jolly Green Monster or maybe even Andy Forrest on here or Google. Hope this helps.

Cheers mate,

If you have a MY96 then you have a td05 turbo, the MY97-00 cars run a td04.
You can get an ESL chip for your model, cheaper than a simtek

If your only after 260-280bhp why not get a import ECU like the Z4 that should see you nicely to that figure or a major sarcasm chip or something similar very cheap option and you should easily make those figures

my old 97 uk turbo had hks headers/up-pipe,full decat system, walbro pump and new age wrx intercooler conversion and made 260 bhp without being mapped and when checked at enginetuner was spot on fuelling/det wise.

It would appear I do have a TD05
But now im confused.. The later models make 245bhp or so don't they? They have a TD04, how/why do they make more power than my TD05 model which I believe has a standard 208bhp?
Just down to engine map? :S
