Is there an easy way of getting this off?



Version 1 car, the boss is standard fitment and I want to remove it as painlessly as possible.

not sure but it looks like your going to need a 2prong puller you can buy them from most motor shops. had this problem before but with vauxhalls but am sure some one on here will know for sure what to do

Put the nut back on and give it a few turn so it's still loose then screw the wheel back on. With the wheel in place and the nut loose bang the wheel towards you with the palms of your hands and eventually it should pop off it's splines. Leaving the nut on stops the wheel hitting you in the face as it comes off

Easy: you've got the nut off? Put it back two turns. Then place a block of wood over it and hit it, HARD with a big hammer, three of four times.
Then refit the wheel and use the wheel to joggle/pull the boss free.

Nut is back on to stop it breaking your nose should it come free suddenly.

Puller used it on a good few cars, see if one of your mates has one, had loads of use out of mine removing wheels

Vauxhalls were renowned for being tight and the hammer method would break the collapsible joint on the steering column - the method Alcazar describes is perfect for a subaru

My mate did what you suggested but without putting the nut back on and also without the wood and he hit it with a f*cking great big lump hammer and he destroyed the column lmao

we took the p!ss out of him for that one!

With a puller and a random bit I found in my tool box to use as a sort of extension.
