Will that still work on an aftermarket ecu though?

That wont work on a aftermarket ecu, there should be a menu in the commander for fault codes.

I'm not sure to be honest. It could be worth trying just to see if anything comes up.
Are you expecting anything specific to come up?

Cant read faults off the simtec without the cable and the software, thats the bit of a downside to aftermarket ecu's

Thanks all for your speedy replies.

I want to check for codes as when my partner booted the car yesterday and today the check engine light came on.

I will put a new thread up later on as I have some more queries relating to work I've had on the car recently.

Not sure about the apexi but on the simtec the check engine light warns flashes for det and solid light for rev limit.

but having just checked I said nothing about the error code checks the powerfc does, doh.

The powerfc will only show an error condition whilst it is occurring for example throttle position out of range.. you move the throttle and it goes back into range and it will turn the engine light back off.

Is the engine light on?

if you go to ETC --> sw/sensor check and it will list on the left the sensors and their value, any out of range will be highlighter, on the right are the switches - ign = ignition on/off, FPC = fuel pump circuit etc etc..

Is the engine light on?

other conditions for the engine light to be illuminated on the powerfc :-
Knock higher than the value specified as safe in the map - monitor the knock in monitor section and will be indicated by a flashing engine light
injectors maxxed - monitor in monitor section
maf maxxed - monitor etc..

Hi Simon

Thanks so much for your post. Engine light is not on all the time. It has only flicked on twice when foot down through gears. This is my partner driving but hasn't happened when I drive but then don't tend to be foot down in all gears.

How to I monitor the knock?

Hi Simon

I have always said to my partner that I wanted you to look after my car. I made a boo boo (long Story!) but I do want you to look at the car.

I am away all xmas but I am saving up to have you come remap the car as I have lost lots of faith with other tuners to the amount of times I've been ripped off. I am too trusting but with you I now know money well spent.

I will be in touch when I have the funds.
