Default Which Brake Fluid?

Hi all,

Am in need of changing my pads and discs and whilst I'm at it may as well change the brake fluid as I have no idea how long its been in there.

Ian Godney from Godspeed Brakes is hopefully sorting me out with sum grooved discs and hopefully getting hold of sum ebc redstuff pads for me .

Therefore my only question is which brake fluid to go for?

I'm hoping to do a track day or two soon hence the redstuff pads on grooved discs and having spent out a bit more on these than standard replacements I don't want any issues when it comes to the fluid..

I've done a bit of research and found the following thread to be very helpful:

https://www.scoobynet.com/wheels-tyr...ake-fluid.html

Therefore, I'm guessing I've kinda answered my question already in thinking that DOT 5.1 Fluid should be my fluid of choice?

My only worry is on the yellow top I think it says to only use DOT 3.. Should I therefore stick to DOT 3 or will DOT 5.1 be a better fluid therefore be better, I'm guessing maybe better DOT'd fluids weren't in existence in '99 when the car was manufactured...

Car is a '99 Classic Sport 2.0.

Any comments appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Jase

Castrol SRF is a really good fluid, it's what we use and will certainly take a beating but you will need to change it more often than conventional fluids.

Dot 3 is the minimum requirment stamped on the cap. Dot4 & 5.1 is a better temp fluid. Theres not a problem using 5.1.
As above id go with bluestuff rather than red. I found the red not to be very good

lol

Yeah, it just seemed to be 'the one' to have (at least in the past lol). Didn't really check the price etc.

Thanks for all the replies, unfortunately, ebc don't make pads any higher spec than the redstuff for my brakes ... mine are the 1pots lol and I have drums on the rear ha! It is only a sport after all.. I was simply looking to upgrade what I can easily without messing about too much or spending silly money converting to 4 pots on the front and stick discs on the rear as the car isn't worth it and I'm just waiting until the insurance goes down enough as I get older before I can get a turbo, therefore in the meantime, wishing to beat it round the track and don't wanna run outter brakes! Ian Godney at godspeed brakes has sorted me out sum 5.1 fluid in with the pads and discs, so I should be sorted now !
