Gearbox noise
Hi all,
Just gave my MY00 Turbo a fluids change & now have a slight whine on over-run / decelleration during changing down...
I've had the car for nearly a year without any noises, but wasn't sure when the drive fluids were last changed so done them just now.
The diff oil was darker that the gearbox oil when dropping it out - the 'box oil actually looked too clean, as if changed only yesterday !
I left the 'box to drain until I only had a few drips coming out and re-filled, I know it takes 3.5 ltrs so put in a properly measured 3 and checked the level to find it was slightly over the top mark (less than a mm) so went on a quick drive and that's when I heard the noise, I re-checked the level & it was still that smidge over the top mark.
Have I done something wrong, or could it be that minimal amount causing the noise ?
Or, what I'm thinking is the guy that sold me the car changed the fluid for a thicker oil to hide any noises !
I have used a decent quality 75/90 in gearbox & diff, and the gear change does feel smoother.
Thanks in advance for any advice
Oh, have changed engine oil too - but that I don't think is the problem !

My classic used to do that a lot but then randomly stopped.

Cheers for the replies & a quick update,
All ok with the 'box !
I rotated the wheels front to back back at the same time as doing the fluids and the noise is coming from a budget tyre which is now on the NSF.
Am planning on upgrading to 17's in near future so problem will be solved then
