K-Sport or D2??

Easy, Brembos
All you need for fast road use.
Cheaper to buy, and MUCH cheaper for replacement pads and discs.
I had Brembos on my UK300 and STI, D2's on my 350bhp classic and K Sports on my P1.

Yeah I know there the same but are they any better lol
K sport and D2 are the same kits , made in the same factory but badged up differently , they do not have any dust seals , they only have hydraulic seals , which are fitted to the piston not inside the bore of the caliper like most calipers are .

Ian how many times you are replaced pistons/dust shield in Brembo/AP or rebuild'd calipers?
And how many times you are replaced pistons in K-sport or rebuild'd calipers?
I'm pretty sure you are done more Brembo/AP than K-sport,maybe i'm wrong.
Here is quote form K-sport website about the dust shields:
I saw that K-Sport brake calipers have no dust shield seals. How does it look then with the durability?
K-Sport brake calipers have forged aluminum brake pistons with a Hardcoat coating. Other manufacturers use steel piston, this rust then with the aluminum caliper together trought humidity. Steel and aluminum do not get along, since a local cell develops (electrochemistry) and the base metal is oxidized. The material mating, the Eloxal of the calipers and the Hardcoat coating of the forging pistons prevent a fixed rusting. Further the pistons of other manufacturers are equipped with only one sealing ring, these seal the brake fluid outward. The K-Sport forging brake pistons are equipped with two seals. The internal sealing ring serves the brake fluid (the system keeps close) for sealing, the outside sealing ring prevents the penetration and a determining of dirt.
This building method is most innovative and compact. Conventional dust shield seals are useless with K-Sport brake calipers.

Who cares how much cost,if they're perform better that's the most important thing in my view,as i said everything is down to pads,if you are using supplied K-Sport pads, yes these are horrible, but with PF pads or even EBC BlueStuff NDX...
If AP cost similar money than K-Sport i would go with these without the doubts, but if they're cost 2-3 times more than K-sport,sorry no.

Cheers for the info guys. Just phone Apex (K-Sport) and they are out of stock with the set up that i want. Any other dealers? had a uk google search and nothing. Apex said they'll have some in by the 20th Dec.
Rather have them sooner than later. My brakes are terrible and this bad weather is not helping.

The AP and Brembo calipers also use aluminium pistons ,
I have changed pistons on the older style AP calipers , as they don't have a rubber boot covering the pistons , they have a dust seal sitting in a groove at the top of the bore of the calipers , this seal will stop muck/dust getting into the caliper , but will not protect the pistons.
The later style AP calipers with the rubber boots covering the pistons are the same design as the STi calipers , I have never had to change the pistons to date on either of these calipers , only seals.
The downside of the K sport / D2 caliper designs is that the way they seal , An AP or Brembo caliper has the hydraulic seal in a groove machined into the bore of the caliper , so the piston will move on this seal , if the bore or piston is ever scored or damaged , then it could still be used again , you would fit new pistons with a perfect surface that seals on the actual seal itself , if the K sport caliper bores get scored or damaged , the caliper is scrap , as the seal on these are fitted to the bottom of the piston , its the piston and seal that move in the bore , so the surface of the bore always has to be perfect
Here you can see the calipers with the pistons out , the 2 seals are at the bottom of the bore , so there is nothing stopping dust getting into the bore down to the first seal , this could be a problem with people getting damaged bores , which cannot be repaired , I haven't heard of anyone having any problems yet , but it can happen
The AP or Brembo seals are a much better design in my opinion

Thanks for the info Ian. The only thing thats put me off AP brakes is the price. My budget is £1000 and for the money Apex can do 8pots with 356mm for £849. I know AP are a better brake and i have done my research, but for the money K-Sports are winning.

I've done research before i bought mine K-sport front and rear one,i know they don't have dust seals and from mine experience and lots of search on other forums,.

Everyone thinks that more pots or bigger discs always = better, thats not necessarily true, I think its about the ammount of pressure on the surface area or something like that, and if you have a nice chat with Ian (oh and you need 18's for the 356mm), you may get something within your budget that are better

OE 4pots are poor on New age and on classic too if you are looking for above 350bhp or less,i've tried too OE 4pots with big brake conversion, but still not the best solution there.

With regards to reliability of the kits, theyre superb and have been proven to be so over the past 6 years and many thousands of kits that we have sold

Yep. We have just recieved a batch of Halfords Dot 5.1 high performance fluid. Dont laugh, we have found it to be an excellent fast road and limited track product. Its very good value for money too.
We also have Motul Dot 5.1 and can also supply Moutl RBF 600 and RBF 660 should you want to go hardcore.
