Default STi8 spoiler on a WRX

Just received my sexy carbon fibre STi8 spoiler from scoobyworld, had a quick look at the fitments of it and there appears to be 8 extra holes on the spoiler.
With my scooby being a WRX there are only 4 holes in the boot (2 for either side of the spoiler), the STi8 spoiler has 8 more holes, including 2 in the middle.

Am I going to need to drill the bootlid to accommodate the other holes or will the spoiler be just as safe with the 4 WRX holes?

Cheers
Dan

I'd put adhesive on but there's a chance that I'm going to get part of the spoiler sprayed at some point next year, so it might need to come off.

You need an STI boot lid which already has the holes drilled in it
Dont try to use adhesive, it wont work very well

I made a card template and drilled extra holes, plus replaced foam seal around the edges and sealed screw/ dowel holes with silicon.

New boot lid normally because of the added weight of the spoiler. But yours is light weight so you probably don't need to.

It woould be better to get the extra holes but it seriously isn't worth drilling them.

Nossy, the only reason you need the new boot lid (from an STI) is that it has the holes already drilled in the spoiler (as its taller) will be subjected to more aerodynamics which requires more holes to hold it down (hence the reason they have more holes in STI boots )

The springs or something is different in the two boots. There was a topic on here not that long ago but I can't seem to find it. Cut a long story short they summed up either change the springs or links (can't remember the proper name) or just the whole boot as it is easier.

With the added weight of the spoiler, when the boot is shut it dents the boot lid or something. Hey don't shoot me I'm just telling you what I heard on here.

think you mean the tensioners that hold the boot up when you open it lol, there stronger on an sti lid so to stop the lid from chopping your head off

No point drilling holes in wrx bootlid as the second inner skin is different. Is a complete pain and you won't be able to get access to all the bolt holes due to the inner skin differences!

I fitted same spoiler to my 06 wrx. Drilled 2 more holes so spoiler is fitted with 6 bolts and lots of double sided tape everywhere else. Is solid, won't come off. Been on there for ages now with no issues!

Get an sti bootlid, much better solution.

There's no problem with the inner skin - you just need to make a decent template up and get the drill out!

Can i have your tensioners please? Been looking for some for ages.

Maybe the 06 wrx bootlid inner skin is different then, the sti spoiler holes for mine were in completely the wrong place. Definitely different on mine when I did it. Odd.

I fitted an STi8 on my 03 wrx spoiler recently and drilled about an extra 6 holes i think....was no problem at all....took hardly any time once id made the template and access to get the bolts was fine.

Maybe it was my carbon scoobyworld spoiler causing the problems then. Mine was a complete **** to fit. Bolts ending up inside double skin section on boot etc etc. Only 2 bolts lined up with original wrx spoiler holes. Just my luck. Lol

I wanna fit a spoiler to my 07 wrx as well. It's got 4 holes underneath boot lid. What spoilers can I use without drilling anymore

If its anything like mine then none, you will need to drill holes. But from reading this it seems my problems are isolated! Can anyone confirm if they have fitted an sti spoiler to a hawkeye? Is the boot , or at least the inner skin identical to all newage wrx's/sti's?

Maybe I'm just very very unlucky. Lol

Wow cheers for all the replies... I'm torn between finding somebody breaking an STi or just whipping the drill out and doing it myself!

I've been on a few forums in the last few years and this is by far the most helpful!!

I'll have a look at the holes and if there'll be any problems with the skin and I'll hopefully get it fitted over the next few days, I'll try get some pics up of the process as it seems like a bit of a grey area with lots of different ways of solving the problem.

Does he really need stronger boot struts and the extra anchoring seeing as a carbon spoiler will be much lighter anyway?

I got the carbon sti spoiler and still needed extra holes and definitely stronger springs. Still too heavy for wrx springs.

Just spent the last 3 hours fitting this bloody thing!

Utter pain in the ****!!!! Scoobyworld says: "Fits New Age WRX and STI 2001 onwards"
NOT A SINGLE HOLE LINED UP!!!!!

Had to drill the bootlid with 10 new holes to get it to fit!..

Really not happy with ScoobyWorld at the mo, my first order they sent me the wrong BOV, now I've spent all afternoon fitting this spoiler!

I've got some images I'll pop up that shows the process and how far out the holes are etc.

Also just to clear a few things up from earlier on in this thread, the skin on the inside of the bonnet DOES get in the way when fitting this spoiler, you have to drill the bootlid AND the skin on 60% of the holes.

Also it's an awful lot heavier than the original WRX spoiler and it's made closing the boot a bit more dangerous haha.

Other than that, now it's fitted I'm really happy with it, the hard work has paid off, just need to pop to my local car store and get some washers and sealant for it.

Gave her a quick clean before I started work:

Old spoiler came off, had to give it a quick polish and touch up to get rid of the marks left behind:

Made a trace of the new spoiler, marked where all the holes were, then lined it up on the boot for the best fitment:

Marked the holes onto the bootlid, drilled pilots for the new holes *whilst pooping myself*:

Drilled all the holes, you can see in the next picture just how far out they are from the original holes in the boot!!:

Next I had to fish out the cable for the break light, another pain in the ****! finally fished it out, connected it all up and everything worked fine:

Tightened all the bolts, then decided I wanted to get rid of the WRX badge from the boot, got that off and then spent the next 45mins trying to get the bloody glue off!
Anyway here's how she is now:

Just need to get some tar and glue remover to get rid of the last bits of glue.

Lots of thanks to my Dad for helping me out with this one, definitely more than a one man job!

Next job - Carbon bonnet scoop!
