hi all ive just bought a blob eye 53 plate sti type uk thats done 70k
at the mo its running 355 bhp........done at scoobyclinic
my Q is what the max power the stock engine can handdle

depends on health of engine, if healthy some people have run standard engines upto 500bhp, my personal opinion is around 400bhp before consider upgrading parts.

best bet is to get a health check (compression, det ect) and go from there.

I'm seeing more and more newage sti engines with piston to bore contact/damage, I think that althought he pistons are strong, they do run with very tight clearances and this is causing problems when you wind them up.
